Artavan Campsite
Campsite in the picturesque Artavan village in Vayots Dzor region. Offers tents, clean bathrooms, electricity, WiFi, and food services. Perfect for nature lovers seeking authentic Armenian countryside experience.
Getting there
Artavan Campsite sits in the village of Artavan in the Vayots Dzor region, roughly 130 km southeast of Yerevan. The drive takes about 2.5 to 3 hours. Follow the M-2 highway south toward Yeghegnadzor, the regional centre, then turn off onto the road that climbs east through Gladzor and Hermon toward Artavan. The M-2 is a well-maintained, paved highway the whole way to the turn-off. The final stretch up to Artavan is a narrower mountain road that gains altitude steadily; it is passable by a regular car in dry conditions, but a higher-clearance vehicle is more comfortable, especially after rain or in early spring when the surface can be rough. There is no direct public transport to the village, so coming by car or arranged transfer is the most reliable option. Allow extra time in winter and at dusk, as the upper road is unlit and twisty.
Best time to visit
The campsite is best visited from late spring to early autumn, roughly May through October, when the village and surrounding trails are green and accessible. Artavan lies at high altitude, so even in summer the days are pleasantly warm while nights turn cool and crisp—bring a warm layer and a proper sleeping bag whatever the month. June to September offers the most stable, sunny weather and the best conditions for hiking, while spring brings wildflowers and autumn brings golden hillsides. Outside this window, snow and cold can make the access road difficult and many services scale back.
Facilities
Artavan Campsite offers ready-pitched tents as well as space to set up your own, so you can travel light or bring your own gear. Pitches are set among the open countryside with mountain views, and availability is limited during peak summer weekends, so it is worth reserving ahead. The site has clean shared bathrooms, electricity, and WiFi, making it comfortable for travellers who still want to stay connected. Home-cooked food is available on site, prepared with local village produce—a hot meal after a day on the trails is one of the highlights of staying here. Pricing depends on the season and whether you use a provided tent or your own; contact the campsite directly for current rates and to confirm what's included with your booking. Bring sturdy footwear, a warm sleeping bag, layers for cool nights, a refillable water bottle, and sun protection for the high-altitude days.
